Project Management is the process to deliver predictable project outcomes and to ensure the project is delivered on time, on budget, and to the agreed scope whilst maintaining quality standards. Good project management practice regularly refers to the project business case to check that the project is still justified and aligned with business benefits.
The Project Manager will coordinate all activities and resources, address issues and risks as they arise.
The Project Manager will regularly report back to key stakeholders on the project, reporting on progress, milestones achieved, key issues and risks, and drawing their attention to any important decisions that need to be made.
The Project Manager will help kick start the project, starting with a plan. This ensures the right resources are available, and the key stakeholders are well informed.
We can independently conduct a project post-implementation review which will capture the successes and collect useful pointers for the next project.
Do you get feedback that your IT projects deliver value to the business? Do you need a Project Manager for your IT project?
The Effectus Project Management Methodology (EPMM) is a set of processes, tools and techniques used to achieve predictable outcomes. The EPMM is flexible and scalable which means that it is based on the level of complexity and size of the respective project. It aligns with industry best practice guidelines from recognised project management institutions.
Using the EPMM across the projects in your organisation helps create a strategic value chain that supports your organisation to remain competitive and relevant particularly in high risk markets and sectors. Not only does it ensure that projects are delivered on time, within budget and scope but also ensures that the requisite organisational change is delivered effectively across your organisation and that the project delivers business value.
We include the tools to manage your portfolio of projects and help prioritise them according to what the business needs as well as project planning and resource scheduling.
We work with you to tailor our methodology to suit your business needs based on our extensive knowledge and project delivery success with similar organisations.
Do you want to bring some consistency to managing your IT projects? Why not use our Project Management Methodology?
Effectus understand and have utilised many differing frameworks, from Prince 2, PMI, PMBOK through to SCRUM. We understand it is important to not be beholden to one particular framework, but rather to understand their strengths, weaknesses and application to a particular project, or even parts of a project. It is not unusual to have a Waterfall framework over a project that then utilises a SCRUM framework when a rapid piece of software development is required (For example: APIs for integration).
We work with you to tailor a project framework to suit your project size, based on our extensive knowledge and delivery success with similar projects. We can then either act as advisors and mentor your PM, or should you wish, we can help you by supplying a full-time PM to manage your project.
Do you want to bring some consistency to managing your IT projects? Why not use our experience in Project Management Frameworks.
Effectus has seen many organisations use projects as a method for achieving strategic goals but due to the nature of the projects focus of most IT departments, IT is often tasked with managing, executing, or delivering many projects or project components for both IT and the rest of the business. Managing many projects simultaneously can result in a poor understanding of project performance and the business can end up making decisions based on inadequate information if some form or coordination is unavailable. Projects are more likely to fail and be inefficient in their execution, leading to a destruction of their business value.
Without a PMO, projects execute independently in an uncoordinated manner. Think of a PMO as the conductor of your project orchestra that brings them together into a single holistic view and as such must be right for your organisation.
Focussing on the nine key areas of a PMO:
Effectus can ascertain the level of maturity in each area across the PMO to highlight where and how things can be improved. We understand that Rome wasn’t built in a day and it may take up to three years before your PMO attains its target state. So, to assist, we will focus on closing the capability gaps that will add the greatest value first. Bear in mind, a good plan is not enough to proceed and that you need the buy-in from senior management to approve and support the construction of a PMO.
Would you like a review of your existing PMO, or perhaps assistance to start up a new PMO? Why not use our PMO assessment capability?
Perhaps you have a new Project Manager to the company or are looking to up-skill an existing PM to be able to manage larger projects or even programmes of work. A mentor is someone who acts as your trusted advisor. Effectus will meet with the PM regularly to discuss problems or challenges, and to pass on their experience. Think of a mentor as someone you can turn to for impartial advice when the workings of your company get too difficult or you need to understand a new concept. For example, what if your PM has to lead a high-profile project or just wants to access the lessons the Effectus mentor has learned over the years., and can ask the questions on their minds.
Formal schemes tend to happen in the largest organisations as they are cost-effective to run when you can make connections between large groups of staff. Smaller companies might have a buddying scheme. For the smaller organisations, the cost overheads of having Effectus mentor your PM are justified by the results, and an expensive internal mentoring scheme is not required.
Effectus can provide independent advice and support to your company and support the project by participating as an independent advisor on the governance groups to provide guidance on risk and challenges. We can also help articulate the project journey to the business and key stakeholders and provide support in vendor liaison and escalation. Effectus can liaise with any 3rd party Business Assurance companies regarding external reviews for senior management and will provide monthly oversight to the PMO.
Having Effectus assist in an independent role allows you to retain the knowledge and IP within your company while having the certainty of a trusted advisor ensuring the processes are being followed. This will also allow for up-skilling of your staff for future projects.
Do you like the idea of a knowledgeable and trusted advisor working independently to ensure your project is being managed efficiently while at the same time up-skilling your staff? Why not ask about our Independent Project Review capabilities.
